Qualifications:
- Use social media and source networks actively for reporting and distribution.
- Talk with the local arts communities and constantly interact with the important stakeholders.
- Locate and create engaging arts stories for broadcast, the online, and video or audio podcasts.
- Maintain daily filing schedule, which may entail some weekend and nighttime hours.
- Storytelling opportunities exist where minority populations, the arts, and culture converge.
- Pitch stories and complete assigned stories as part of this employment. The managing editor will be your boss.
- There are also supplementary duties, such as monitoring federal and state reporting websites, conducting research on public disclosure forms, and filing records requests.
- The journalist will also be responsible for tracking donations, PACs, lobbying, conflicts of interest, and other areas where money plays a role in politics, as well as covering and finding stories related to these issues.
- You might also be requested, depending on the situation, to capture still pictures, record video, or produce on-camera video segments about your reporting.
- Develop a vision and strategy for arts coverage by working closely with editors and content creators to draft detailed plans.
Skills:
- a command of the English language at a proficient level and the capacity to explain specialized concepts to a broad audience
- familiarity with audio production basics or experience in the field is required.
- It’s beneficial to be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Facebook, Twitter, and other social media proficiency are preferred.
- a similar mix of education and experience is a bachelor’s degree and three years of professional journalism experience, with a focus on arts reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to professionally represent the station.
