Full-Time Certified Crane Operator – Vereeniging
Job Description
The Crane Operator performs the following responsibilities while operating a moving or stationary crane (cab operated) to lift, move, and place loads such as machinery, equipment, goods, and solid or bulk materials. High degree of skill and expertise is necessary. It is necessary to have an NCCCO or a CIC.

Qualifications:
- Ascend a vertical ladder (to a height of 25 feet), check the crane and cab, complete inspection documentation, operate the crane (4 hand levers, 1 foot brake), and fulfil steel orders.
- The crane operator inspects the crane for damaged or malfunctioning components and notifies the supervisor if any are discovered by him. Cleaning and lubricating the lifting mechanism of the crane.
- Securing rigging, installing loads, detaching ropes, and returning them to storage racks are all responsibilities that must be fulfilled before a load may be moved.
- You can keep track of activities and make changes to the process using the control panel. All tasks are carried out in accordance with safety rules and laws, and general preventative maintenance is undertaken.
- Understand and abide by all applicable corporate, customer, and health and safety rules, as well as any additional requirements, such as weight and size limits.
- Any and all difficulties are reported promptly, and the employee is capable of operating in any weather condition. Performs other obligations as directed by management.
- Reading and understanding instruction manuals, plans, drawings, and specifications, as well as using math’s to compute load weights, wire, sheaves, and fitting sizes, are all required skills in this field.
- Rigger Operation Manual (must be on rigger at all times), chains, nylon slings, pallet lifters, magnets, vacuum lifters, posi-turner, spreader bar, softeners, tape measure, hammer, punches, pliers, crescent wrench, and paint stick marker are all necessary for this work.
- When the responsibilities of the Crane Operator have been performed, and the workload for the principal job above has allowed, the work of a Rigger begins.
- Work with riggers and truck drivers to lift objects and other cargo using radio or visual signals and other forms of communication.
Skills:
- Prior experience operating a cab and bridge crane (or a crane of a similar type) from heights of 30 feet or more and spans of 60 feet or more is required for this role.
- To guarantee the continuous, needed level of physical health and ability or fitness to execute the responsibilities of the position, this position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination afterwards.
- Capacity to guarantee that all safety and housekeeping rules are observed, machine capacity is not exceeded, and all tools, supplies, and equipment are correctly accounted for and stowed at the end of each workday.
- It is required that you have at least 1-2 years of experience operating heavy machinery.
- Certification from either the NCCCO or the CIC is required. It’s necessary to have a current DOT medical card. Managerial certification or endorsement from the safety department is necessary. Because it’s required by the local government (DC requires operators to be licensed). An on-the-job assessment is required.
