Qualifications:
- Provides information to consumers about codes and other regulatory requirements; acts as a subject matter expert on applicable regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment.
- To ensure that new construction, alterations, and repairs adhere to local building regulations and ordinances, as well as contract obligations, inspectors conduct thorough checks on a variety of buildings, including residential and light commercial.
- Collaborate with other contractors and local officials on building projects, providing direction and mechanical support as required.. This individual participates in several trainings in order to keep up with the latest construction industry trends and related inspection standards.
- Conducted site inspections to verify that contractors are adhering to specifications and inspecting the quality of their work, as well as visiting construction sites and the places where they do business.
- Corrective action was verified; patrols were conducted on a regular basis to monitor building progress; and written notices of violation, citation, and closures were issued.
- Inspects mobile/manufactured structure installations for conformance to manufacturer’s specifications and any state criteria.
- Federal, state, and municipal requirements are investigated and corrective procedures are devised. Alternate ways of compliance are also approved by the proper authorities, as are plans for conformance.
- Assesses and inspects numerous building and construction sites in the City, and offers a comprehensive review of all building operations to ensure compliance, safety, and competence.
- To make sure that work is done according to plans and codes: Attends meetings and trainings to make sure that work is being done in a way that meets the plans and codes.
- Providing assistance in the resolution of difficult and sensitive customer service problems that arise in the context of building codes and regulations.
Skills:
- Required knowledge and experience are often earned by the completion of a curriculum leading to either a High School Diploma or GED, as well as a minimum of (5) years of job related experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, or a similar profession.
- Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certificate at the time of hire, or the ability to get one in the next six months.
- experience working in a construction-related role, such as carpentry, where the interpretation of specifications and plans, as well as the verification of compliance with local development and/or building codes, is required.
- Having the capacity to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any step of the construction process is essential.
- Ability to obtain a temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license from the Department of Building and Property Regulation (DBPR) within ninety (90) days of hiring and convert that license to a standard license within the time period specified by the DBPR in order to continue working for the department.
