Full-Time Copy Editor Intern/Volunteer – Muscat
Job Description
The Proofreader’s primary duty is to proofread and/or copyedit documents that have been prepared by attorneys, clients, and support employees, including those that have been typed, scanned, or written by hand. For the role of Proofreader, it is necessary to have excellent command of the English language (including spelling, grammar, and punctuation) and a working knowledge of legal jargon. As professionals, proofreaders should be able to handle both individual and group projects with ease.

Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required, and familiarity with the online is a bonus.
- Talk to the staff, the attorneys, and the management about the tasks at hand and any changes that need to be made to the documentation.
- With a keen eye for detail, the ability to multitask, and excellent verbal, writing, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
- Research questions regarding spelling, grammar or word use and make corrections to original hard copy documents or electronic copy. If necessary, assist department manager with creating style tips or writing guidelines for distribution to department.
- Reading the original copy or drafts will help you spot and note any mistakes in grammar, spelling, or structure.
- Quickly complete proofreading and copyediting services by using technologies like electronic work logs, instant chat, monitoring changes for feedback, and ChangePro for electronic review.
- Be sure to keep track of any and all documents that have been subject to copyediting or proofreading.
- Documents should be proofread to ensure that they are grammatically and visually sound. Mark any faults that you see in the document using a standard proofreading code.
- Proofreading experience of at least five years; expertise in a legal setting is preferred.
- Send in your corrected papers and check your corrections against the original.
