Job Description
Statewide control of building and facility construction projects is the responsibility of the Building Inspector. Represents facilities management in the field with reference to progress and issue solutions. Supports the implementation, supervision, and evaluation of activities using technical help. An architect or engineer with complete power for final approval of project work collaborates with the project manager. Reports to the Facilities Project Development Manager. Travel is a must for my job. Contractors, as well as representatives from other government departments, are all part of the job. At this degree of responsibility, employees are almost entirely responsible for their own job.

Qualifications:
- Provides and participates in different trainings required to keep up with changing trends in the building and construction trades, as well as relevant inspection rules; provides guidance and mechanical advice to other contractors and City officials working on construction projects.
- Ensured remedial action had been implemented; monitored construction sites on a regular manner to monitor building progress; and issued and written notice of violation, citation, and closures.
- Instructs clients on codes and other regulatory requirements; serves as a subject matter expert on applicable regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; and maintains and repairs equipment.
- All building projects and activities are subject to his scrutiny; he must ensure that they comply with all relevant laws, rules, and industry standards.
- There are a number of training sessions and conferences he attends to ensure that the project is done to plan and code. As a result, he’s always up-to-date on the latest advances in construction materials, restoration procedures, and relevant regulations.
- find and implement solutions to violations, as well as to develop and convey action plans for bringing the organization’s policies and procedures into compliance.
- Ensures that difficult and sensitive customer service problems may be resolved in the context of construction requirements.
- Conducts inspections of building, sign, and construction work conducted by outside contractors and city workers to verify compliance with contract requirements and quality control; visits job sites and contractors’ locations to examine work and supplies on hand.
- Examines mobile/manufactured structure installations for manufacturer’s and state standards compliance.
- Performs residential and light commercial building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspections to verify that new construction, changes, and repairs conform with building codes, ordinances, zoning laws, and contract requirements.
Skills:
- Possession of the capacity to detect and correct any violations or flaws in building construction materials and procedures at any level of construction.
- Having certified erosion and sedimentation control lead certification, or the ability to get one within six months of starting the position, is required to be considered for this position.
- Temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license through DBPR after 90 days of hire and the ability to convert to a normal license within the term required by DBPR in order for department employees.
- A high school graduation or GED, as well as five years of relevant work experience in construction, plumbing, electrical, or related sectors, are required.
- Worked as a carpenter for four years requiring the interpretation of designs and the confirmation of conformity with local development and/or building rules.
