Full-Time General Assignment Reporter, Currents News – Abraq Khayţān
Job Description
The Reporter’s primary focus should be on state government and state-level politics, but this is not a must. That is, both governing and voting politics count. On average, the Reporter will be tasked with filing two to three articles per week on breaking news events and other timely topics, as well as conducting in-depth investigations to uncover previously unreported information (e.g., at least every couple of weeks).

Qualifications:
- Wherever there is a concentration of people from underrepresented groups, there will be an opportunity to tell their stories.
- The reporter will also be expected to cover and uncover stories on the role of money in politics, including tracking donations, PACs, lobbying, and conflicts of interest.
- Learn how to spot compelling arts stories and produce them for broadcast, the web, video, and audio podcasts.
- The position also requires the candidate to pitch story ideas and complete assigned story tasks. You will be responsible for reporting to the managing editor.
- Maintain regular communication with key players and organize events for the local artists.
- It would also need learning how to use online federal and state reporting tools, keeping an eye on and researching public disclosure forms, and submitting records request forms.
- Distribute your content and gather information with the use of social media and other source networks.
- Depending on the nature of the story at hand, you may also be required to take still images, record video, or film and produce on-camera video segments.
- Meet the daily filing schedule, which may include some late and weekend labor.
- Work closely with editors and content creators to articulate a mission and plan for covering the arts.
Skills:
- Possess the ability to work well both individually and as part of a team and to represent the station in a positive light at all times.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and three years’ experience in professional journalism are required, as well as strong skill in covering the arts.
- ability to articulate complex ideas to laypeople in English and a knowledge of the language
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is helpful. Ability to use Facebook and Twitter and other social media preferred.
- familiarity with audio production basics or experience in the field is required.
