Qualifications:
- Applications are reviewed, and either granted or denied, and applicants are notified of the grounds for refusal. Coordinate with municipal officials and engage in site clearance inspections to verify that plans presented are in accordance with municipal code and ordinance requirements. To check the accuracy of the information included in the plans that have been filed, coordinate inspections with inspectors at lower levels.
- By confirming, setting up, inventorying, route planning, getting access to rights of way, and all other activities related to sale administration, this person helps with the yearly thin and harvest schedules.
- Assisting with all aspects of silviculture, forest management, and harvest monitoring on business or private holdings.
- Responsible for ensuring that the quality, amount, and kind of plant materials utilized are appropriate and that suitable processes are followed to protect existing and install new plants..
- Responsible for silviculture plan implementation, field-verification of treatment candidates, and provision of setting-specific recon information to management, as well as contract negotiation, silviculture operation supervision, timely status updates for system activity updates, and monitoring of contract performance including safety, SFI, EMP, production, cost and quality. Silviculture processing is also included.
- Other jobs may be allocated, such as those assigned at the beginning and middle of a rotation, contract administration, and other obligations.
- Keeping forestry-related websites current and creating new outreach materials are essential components of many different forestry efforts.
- Consults with other site plan review personnel (stormwater, zoning, transportation) to verify that the code requirements for other disciplines can be accomplished without causing conflicts with the tree and landscape code.
- Ensure that the City’s trees are healthy and safe, and teach other Streets Division employees how to care for them.
- Evaluate the status of county-managed forestland and contribute to the development of forest stewardship plans that will guide future restoration and management. Field data collection and analysis are used to assess the state of forest stands. Collaborate with employees and contractors to analyze the status of all newly acquired and newly acquired forestland parcels using the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT).
Skills:
- It is necessary to be able to build and maintain good working connections with coworkers, departments, and members of the public.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, are important, as are good verbal and written communication skills.
- All candidates must have six months of expertise in landscape design and six months of experience in tree and landscape inspections from a recognized institution or university.
- Perform pathological plant inspections, determine the reparability of diseased and physically damaged trees, review landscaping plans, enforce codes and ordinances with firmness, tact, and impartiality, work outdoors requiring some degree of physical endurance, train staff to perform tree inspections, establish a tree inspection program, and more.
- There is a very high standard for all elements of tree care, from planting to pruning to disease detection and treatment. A detailed grasp of the different tree care methods is also required.
